What’s a blog?
Is it some creature from the black lagoon? The name Blog is actually short for web log.
A web log came about in 1995 by people publishing their online diaries or journals. By people adding links to their online journals and adding links to other web site information, the name web log was produced and over time the term blog was more commonly used.
How do I make a blog?
Firstly, you need to have your blog hosted, just the same as you would have your website hosted.
Blogs can be hosted by dedicated blog hosting services, or they can be run using blog software , such as Word Press, Movable Type, blogger or LiveJournal , or by regular web hosting services, such as MySpace.
Blogs in business
Blogging by established politicians and political leaders, to express opinions on war and other issues, cemented Blogs’ role as a news source and as tools for outreach and opinion forming.
This lead to many companies adding blogs full of resourceful information.
Some Blogs were an important news source during the December 2004 Tsunami such asMedecins Sans Frontieres, which used SMS text messaging to report from affected areas in Sri Lanka and Southern India. Similarly, during Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 and the aftermath a few blogs which were located in New Orleans, including The Interdictor andGulfsails were able to maintain power and an Internet connection and disseminate information that was not covered by the main stream media.
Blogs are also a great tool for improving your search engine ranking if embedded in your website or if they exist as a separate site but contain links to all your online ventures. The more you update a site, the more relevant it looks to search engines and the higher it ranks
